I didn't exactly sleep well. I think the walking made me hot, and then I just didn't sleep. I missed my turn to prepare for breakfast, but no one judged me. Well...I thought my room mate was judging me, but she claims what right does she have to judge anyone, so we are square there. I did some washing up to make up for my lack of appearance at breakfast.
Our first session has just finished, and the speaker is staying for lunch. He comes from Quaker service, which offers two main services, including an unconditionally loving space for families who can not be helped by social services. The state authorities are often amazed by the transformations which happen up in that little cottage, which is over subscribed. It is wonderful to hear about a 'service' given out of love, not an intervention or a job. The service has a house on the mountain called Quaker Cottage, up high away from the divided city below. For many of the families attending Quaker Cottage, this is their first experience of real love. Quaker Cottage
Quaker service also offers prison befriending, reaching out to the most rejected and vulnerable people in prisons and in society. It was inspiring to hear about Quakers and non Quakers reaching beyond what an individual has done and reaching the human being inside, without an agenda to change this person's life for the better, just to offer humanity in an dehumanised environment. Quakers first started offering help to families of internees at the Maze Prison, serving tea and sandwiches to Catholics and Protestants alike. Prisons & Justice.
All this from just a cup of tea and some human sympathy. Wow. The answers are sometimes so simple, rather than theoretical or complicated.
Lunch is ready...apparently...not sure. The speaker is still speaking, not sure he will make it home until late. So many questions...
